Gerardo F. Suarez

Gerardo F. Suarez age 81 of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on May 8, 2013, while under the care of Hospice of Palm Beach County in Atlantis, Florida. He was greeted in Heaven by his beloved wife, Mercedes H. Prado and his beloved son, Pedro Luis Suarez, whom have been waiting since 2002 and 2004. Gerardo was born on March 23, 1932 in Cien Fuego, Cuba to his proud parents, Mr. Gerardo Suarez and Mrs. Blanca (nee Paulette) Suarez. Gerardo's family owned several chains of drugstores throughout Cuba, most notably a former drugstore building in Havana; that still bears the family name on the top of the building’s facade. While living in Cuba, Gerardo worked in some of the local quarries, mining various gemstones and gaining knowledge as a Gemologist. In later years, Gerardo along with his wife and children moved to the United States of America and settled in the Illinois area in 1968. A year and half later in 1969, he moved his family to the South Florida area and began a career with the Siemens Corporation, working in the telephone electronics department until he retired after thirty two years of faithful service. Gerardo was a former member of the Cuban American Club in West Palm Beach for many years. He also loved to play Dominos, collect coins, stamps and classic memorabilia and raise orchids. He will be remembered as an honest, hardworking and independent person that practiced what he preached. He leaves behind to forever cherish his memories two children; Gerardo C. Suarez Prado and his wife, Rose of West Palm Beach, Florida and Teresita Alvarez and her husband, Alberto of West Palm Beach, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Abigale Suarez; his admired sister, Blanca Diaz of Miami, Florida; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive him. Family and friends will gather and pay respects on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 4PM - 7PM at Mizell-Faville-Zern Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33405, (561) 833-4061. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7PM on Friday, May 17, 2013 in the Chapel of Mizell-Faville-Zern Funeral Home with Father Jose Crucet the celebrant.
