Gertrude Slappy

Sister Gertrude Williams Slappy was born on March 7, 1935, in Blackville, South Carolina to the late Randall and Zadie Williams. She peacefully departed this life on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 7:03 a.m., at the age of 91.

Her family relocated to Palm Beach County in 1956. Later, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Charles Lewis Slappy in 1968. This union included four daughters and one son.

She obeyed the gospel and was baptized into Christ on August 22, 1971, at the 18th Street Church of Christ. When the congregation later relocated, she faithfully continued her Christian journey with the “S” Avenue Church of Christ. In 1985, she became a devoted founding member of the Third Street Church of Christ, where she worshipped and served the Lord with unwavering dedication for more than four decades.

After an extraordinary 53 years of faithful service, Sister Slappy retired from the Rinker Company in December 2025. She regarded Ms. Ruby Rinker and Caroline Williams as family, and her remarkable tenure stands as a testament to her strong work ethic, loyalty, and staunch spirit.

Her life reflected the virtues of the faithful women of the Bible – committed, steadfast, and devoted to sound Christian doctrine. She was known for unwavering faith, quiet strength, and loving spirit, which touched the lives of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lewis Slappy; beloved son, Frank Williams; In addition, she was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters; She leaves behind four loving daughters to cherish her memory - Louvenia Howzell, West Palm Beach, Julia Johnson (Raymond), Loxahatchee, Della Slappy-Lewis (Fitz) and Sandra Etheredge (Carlos), Pittsburgh, Pa. She is also survived by three brothers-in- law; four sisters- in- law: In addition, she leaves ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory and honor her enduring legacy.

Though she will be deeply missed, her steadfast faith, loving spirit, and lifetime of service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
