Our father, Harold Praeg, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021 at The Waterford Health Center at the age of 94. He was very well taken care of for the past year by both The Waterford and staff very special members of Trustbridge/Hospice, Sage Team. We certainly weathered a very challenging year resulting in no personal visits for almost all of 2020. He was born to Martha Praeg, a single mother, on April 13, 1927 in Glendale, NY. His father was in and out of his life as a young boy, however, on his weekend visits he was given a bit of an allowance spent on books, comics and I'm sure some penny candy too! This started his lifelong love of reading, any book, any subject! He proudly joined the US Navy in 1944 and served our country for 22 years. He often said he had found his forever home in the Navy. On one of his "leaves" home, he was told about new next door neighbors that had moved from Florida and they had a daughter, Betty. Well, you know how that goes.... the proverbial girl next door! They were married in August, 1948 and immediately began their Navy life adventure. Near the end of his retirement he requested a base in Florida, as Betty wanted to come back home, and got his very last choice, Key West! We were there a couple of years and then moved to the sleepy little Village of North Palm Beach in the mid 1960's, where he still has his home. Our father had a 2nd career with Grumman Aerospace, as it was called at that time, in Stuart, in the Quality Control department. After another 20+ years, he retired as a Senior Contracts Administrator. His next 20+ years, he proudly served for the Red Cross in Disaster Services, with his "crowning moment" being asked to go to Guam after a devastating typhoon. He loved every moment. Betty, not so much, but she recognized his sense of volunteerism. Also, during these years, he was involved with the West Palm Beach Veterans Administration, at the Information Desk. He and our mom celebrated 66 years of marriage until her passing in November, 2014. Now they are reunited after 6 1/2 years. He was so supported and will be missed by not only his family but also, his Red Cross and VA families, NPB neighbors, our personal friends and family that included him in every Holiday AND, of course, his First Presbyterian family!! Everyone loved Harold! Harold was a loving and devoted son, a loving and devoted husband to Betty, a wonderful father to his two daughters and grandfather to his only grandson. He leaves to mourn his passing, daughter Deborah Praeg (husband-Don), daughter, Sandra Roberts, grandson, Brian Roberts (wife-Angela) and their four children, Hannah, Haylah, Camron and baby Remi Love Roberts. He will forever be in our thoughts and hearts and we know that he knew how much he was loved by everyone!!! And as he liked to say, "You Betcha"!
Services will be held at Quattlebaum Funeral Home /Hillcrest Cemetery, located at 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach (North of Forest Hill and Southern Boulevards).Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 am with comforting words by his beloved, retired pastor "Lucky" from First Presbyterian Church at 12:00 noon. His burial will be attended by family and Military Honors at 1:00 pm. For any additional information, you may contact (561) 833-4061.
