

James Lee Cantrell, of Riviera Beach, Florida, passed away on October 5, 2025, at Avante Rehabilitation Center in Lake Worth, Florida. He was born on June 2, 1933, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late Garnette and Allene Cantrell. James was the eldest of nine children and the proud patriarch of the Cantrell family.
He was educated in Dooly County, Georgia, at an early age, he joined Holly Grove Baptist Church.
James was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie “W.D.” Cantrell, Franklin “Pete” Cantrell, and Willie “Boot” Cantrell; his sisters, Vera Lois (Eddie Bryant) and Bernice Cantrell. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Toby and Eddie Cantrell.
In October 2021, James was blessed to remarry and share his later years with his devoted wife, Moselle Jackson Cantrell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Barbara Clay (Adrian) of Cordele, Georgia; Marion Crockett (Jeffery) of Riviera Beach, Florida; James C. Cantrell of Riviera Beach, Florida; and Gloria Armstrong (Kenneth) of Sarasota, Florida. He also leaves behind Kenneth Rogers (Vera) of Bartow, Florida; Stanley Jones (Nicole) of Bartow, Florida; and Constance Watkins (Jimmie) of Cocoa Beach, Florida.
James was a proud grandfather to Quan Clay, Demarcus Bell, Jacambra Morrison, all of Cordele, Georgia; Evelyn Talbot of Riviera Beach, Florida; and Coretta Scott (Darion) of West Palm Beach, Florida; Stanley Jones II, Sheldon Jones and Miacia Berry. He also shared a close bond with his goddaughter, Latosha Harper.
He also leaves behind his great grandchildren Takeo Clay, Noah Scott and Elaina Berry. He leaves his brothers L.C. Cantrell (Irene) of Cordele, Georgia; Sammie Cantrell (Diane) of Patterson, New Jersey; and Johnny Cantrell (Shelia) of Sarasota, Florida. His sister-in-law Lavonia W. Cantrell of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Yvonne Cantrell of Jonesboro, Georgia; Audrey Cantrell of Jacksonville, Florida; one Uncle Aaron Wallace (Mary) of Riviera Beach, Florida; and two aunts, Annie Eva of Unadilla, Georgia, and Carolyn Wallace of Vienna, Georgia. A host of great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a beloved niece Regina Tillman who held a special place in his heart.
