Jerry was born in Reidsville, Georgia, on September 21, 1944, to Lewis and Atha Phillips. He married Johnnye Black on November 28, 1965, in the beautiful First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables, Florida.
He proudly served in the Army National Guard for 13 years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (E6). Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying fishing, camping and a good game of pool but he really just loved spending time with his family.
He and his wife, Johnnye, cherished their evenings out dancing, and some of his fondest memories were teaching and dancing with his children in the living room. Jerry was a man of true faith.
In his retirement, Jerry found joy in cruising on his boat and spending weekends at his favorite fishing camp, where he loved singing karaoke with family and friends.
Jerry succumbed to complications of his illness.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene and Freddy Phillips, and his sister, Liz Todd. Jerry is survived by his loving wife Johnnye, his two daughters Holly and Lisa (Rick), his favorite son Kristian (Laura), brothers Billy (Kathy), Terry (Dolores), Donnie (Tammy), Gary (Paula), Timmy (Melody) and his sisters Sandi (Glenn) and Denise (Barry), and his grandchildren Megan (Brandon) and Bailey.
