Lizzie L. Lewis affectionately known a “Nib” was born in Cordele, Ga, on January 22, 1932 to the late Willie J. and Mattie Adams.
“Nib” moved to Riviera Beach, Florida and later joined in holy matrimony to the late Willie Lewis, Sr. and to that union 11 children were born.
She was educated in the Palm Beach County School System. She was employed as a domestic worker.
She was a very loving, pleasant, kind, quiet, and generous person who never met a stranger nor an enemy.
No one was ever turned away from her home that needed food, clothing, or shelter. Her generosity goes back from her days on Bonga in Dan Quarters to her present address on 26th Court. She was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her.
At an early age, she joined Pleasant Heights Missionary Baptist Church, and served as a dedicated usher and choir member. She attended church services regularly until her health declined. She also made sure all of her children attended Sunday School, church services, and participated on every program.
It is a very well- known fact Lizzie “raised” all her children, her children’s children and other children in the neighborhood.
She was well known throughout the community because of her work with the Voter’s League. She faithfully drove the citizens of Riviera Beach to the polls on Election Days. Early Saturday mornings you would find her at garage sales. She also loved her word search books, listening to Gospel Music and especially watching her favorite games shows such Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud.
She peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, February 22, 2021, at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents: Willie J. and Mattie Adams; devoted husband, Willie Lee Lewis, Sr.; three sons: Lawrence, Ronald, and Jeffrey Lewis; two daughters: Jennifer and Wanda Lewis: five brothers: Johnnie B. Adams, Willie J. Adams, Jr., Oscar (“OB”) Adams, Bobby Lee Adams, and Edgar Davis; three sisters: Clara Barlow, Leodis (“Tiny”) Adams and Lillie Belle Napier.
Lizzie L. Lewis leaves to cherish her memories four daughters: Jacqueline Brown (Walter), Connie McRoy ( Elijah), Carla Lewis, and Robin Williams; two sons: Willie (“Bill”) Jr. and Kenny Lewis; one brother, Freddy L. Adams (Barbara). She was a devoted grandmother of 24 grandchildren. In addition, she was blessed with 46 great grand- children and 14 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
