Rae’s love story began in 1945, when she met a tall young sailor named Jimmy on a blind date. They shared 52 loving years of marriage, and she proudly served alongside him as a Navy wife for 20 years—following him wherever duty called. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, sacrifice, and love.
Rae was a devoted wife to her beloved late husband, James G. “Jimmy” Ballard, and a loving mother to James “Rusty” Ballard Jr. and Glenn Ballard. Her faith was at the center of her life. She was a Sunday School teacher, a woman of prayer, and someone whose gentle spirit and kindness made others feel welcomed and loved.
She also took pride in her work. Rae worked in the Boy Scouts office and later served Palm Beach County in its Planning, Zoning and Building Department as Executive Secretary to Director Raymond A. Liberti. She was respected for her professionalism, thoughtfulness, and calm, capable nature.
Rae was cherished by her family as Gigi and leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her sons and their families. Her son Rusty and his wife, Darlene Ballard, and grandson Justin Ballard, who is married to Jen Ballard. Justin and Jen have four children: Kendall, Fallon, Jensen, and Landon. Rae’s granddaughter Sabrina Puleo has four children: Micah, Olivia, Noah, and Cambria.
Her son Glenn is married to Angela Ballard, and granddaughters: Britney, Cara, and Megan.
She will be remembered as a woman of faith, quiet strength, and endless devotion to her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with those she loved in heaven.
