You know what he’s saying right now? “Settle down, girlfriend. No crying or you’ll be taken out of the will. Oh wait, there isn’t one. Nah, I’m just a poor Mexican.” But for such a “poor Mexican,” Manny lived an incredibly rich life.
He started raising hell December 21, 1967 in El Paso, TX and never really stopped. He was WILD. Fearless, always doing some Evel Knievel stunts, causing trouble, hunting, fishing, and off-roading at “Red Sands” with cousins and friends in El Paso and Juarez. Let’s not forget poppin’ wheelies and camping with his mountain biking Hasher buddies at Interbash in “Melboring.” And that time he and Miguelito went primitive camping in the Everglades.
And FUNNY. Responsible for countless smiles around the world, Manny never met a stranger—always ready to give you an inappropriate nickname that you were likely to love or laugh at. He always had a joke and a jalapeño in his pocket ready to go.
Manny was DEVOTED. If you needed a favor, he’d do it asking for nothing in return. He’d make you breakfast before school or chaperone your second grade field trip when your mom had to work. He just wanted everyone to have a good time.
He leaves behind his “Babita, Heinisha Jones.” His brother “McFat,” his “Hermanita, Chela Magoo,” and his niece (who he’d introduce as his daughter) “Wienertime.” (Yes, he really called her that, and nope, can’t recall why).
He touched so “Manny” lives—family and friends from California to Florida, in between, and all over the world from his “Manny” travels.
Manny’s life is a wonderful example of how to live in the moment and to the fullest—don’t take anything too seriously and have fun.
Rest assured, he was making jokes and being wild all the way to the end (seriously). There’s no doubt he’s still raising hell, clowning, and pulling stunts on the “other side.”
We had some good times, many good times, “Manny” good times…
Don’t send flowers, just help those godblessit turtles: seaturtlespacecoast.com. If not, just say “Howdy Partner!” To the next stranger you meet. Thank-you-please!
