Dear Isaac, Jacob and Jaden,
As young men, I am happy you had the opportunity to grow up having a grandma like my Titi Pilar. You called her Mema and my grandmother, your great-grandmother, called her Pilar, a shortened version of her given name, Maria del Pilar, so that's who she was to me. Titi Pilar was one of my younger aunts but wow did she take her roles seriously. As the second youngest child she could not boss around her brother and sisters (she tried) but me and my cousins were a different story.  Growing up, she would not acknowledge any of us unless we called her Titi and accompanied the title with bendición (a request for her blessings). Your grandmother was a hoot. When she was learning to drive I was one of her first passengers and almost flew out the car door when she hit the gas pedal. She was determined to learn and earn her freedom at the wheel. Titi was independent, opinionated, sometimes outrageous and stubborn, traits that I carry and that would shock her when we squabbled. During our last visit Titi Tonie and I witnessed her strong spirit, still squabbling to keep going despite the pain to stay a little longer. She knew she was loved and could be herself. As your loudest cheerleader you know she was no quitter and this is one of the lessons she leaves behind. The most wonderful thing about her was how much she loved her family, your grandfather, her sons, your mom and you. When she asked you to stop by to stand in a line to meet someone, it was to show you off, beaming with pride for her boys. We know this because she would brag, brag, brag. Now she belongs to the band of angels watching over you and bestowing her blessings, still bragging. We will forever share her DNA, God help us and bless us. Love & Peace, Chana

May you find peace in your hearts and keep the memories alive. Titi Pilar will be forever in our hearts. She was not only my aunt but also my friend. Growing up I remember hanging out with her instead of my high school friends. She gave me an appreciation for Salsa music and dancing. Her sociableness and energy were high-octane. Titi lived life to the fullest be it a party over here, a day at the beach or a drive to City Island, BX like we took advantage of when she was last in New York. There were many memories and I will cherish them all. Loving and remembering her always, Galy, Jr., Devin and Miranda 

Pilar and Mami, now reunited in Heaven.          😇❤️😇

Anyone who knew Pilar well knew she was your champion and proud to represent the Mercado's and all of Mami's bunch, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews and cousins. Thank you for loving my sister and taking care of her when she most needed you. Rest easy and know that she has been prayed up, blessed and forgiven by our Lord. Pilar will be dearly missed and will always have a special place our hearts. Hang in there, stay strong, God bless you and remember you have family in New York. Love, Irma
