Born on June 28, 1941, in East Hartford, Connecticut, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Daniel and Lillian O’Brien. She graduated from East Hartford High School in 1959 and went on to build a life grounded in love, family, and quiet strength. She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Stephen D. Patterson, as well as her two brothers, George “Georgie” O’Brien and Donald “Don” O’Brien.
In 1976, Maria and her family moved to Florida, a place she embraced as her true home for the rest of her life. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading, dancing, laughter, and long, peaceful walks. Maria’s warmth, resilience, and generosity of spirit touched everyone who knew her.
She was a devoted mother to her four daughters: Maureen Lopez (Shawn), Lisa Freeman (Steve), Holly Metcalf (Jamie), and Kerry Patterson (Stephanie), all of whom survive her. She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren—Jessica, Brandy, Brandon, Christopher, and Rowan—and two adored great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her later years.
Calling hours will be held on June 25th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Royal Palm Funeral Home. A service celebrating Maria’s life will take place on June 26th at 10:00 AM at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in remembrance of a life well lived and deeply loved.
Though Maria is no longer with us, her legacy endures in the love she shared and the family she nurtured. She will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Maria’s memory to the Dementia Society of America. Contributions can be made online at www.dementiasociety.org (http://www.dementiasociety.org/) or mailed to:
