It is with deep sadness and grief that we inform all of you about the death of Notrelie Bernier, an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and friend, born on the second of May 1929, at Cayes, Jacmel. She was also known as "Sè Paul, ti Granmoun, and Grandma" among others. Notrelie leaves behind her legacy of love, faith, and laughter that will fervently be remembered by those whose lives have been touched by her.
Notrelie, the daughter of Marianna Bernier, has dedicated her life to serving her calls of couturiere and professor, living out what has been learned and imparted to many. She was educated at Breve and was a woman of many talents and passions. She was married to Paul Jean, who died many years ago in Haiti. They had three lovely children: Pierre Felix Jean (deceased), Marie Julia Jean (deceased), and Marie Joseline Jean (living). After her husband's death, Notrelie never got married again and spent the rest of her life as a widow. The bedrock of Notrelie's life was her faith, having known her Lord from a young age, as she gave her heart to Christ and remained loyal until her death. Her spiritual strength was an inspiration to all her acquaintances.
Notrelie moved to the United States in July 2000 and started a new journey: this she did, with the assistance of her surviving daughter, Marie Joseline, in search of a better life for her. It offered her life in the U.S. as she later engaged in several side jobs, working at times as a nanny, an experience which she found to be very enjoyable. Notrelie could give time and love to every work she did. Throughout her time in the new immigrant church ambiance, Notrelie had grown campus at the First Haitian Church of God in WPB. She was a very active member of the congregation church choir and sang from chant d'esperance. She also found comfort and impression by reading her Bible.
Apart from spending time in the Lord, she enjoyed simple pleasures like visiting and spending time near her grandchildren's homes in Canada and the United States. People may have known her as having a great sense of humor, bringing out laughter and joy and thus earning the title of "undercover comedian." She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie Joseline; her grandchildrens’, Widelaine Duny, Jean Wadner Syphat (Haiti), Junior Mondestin (Haiti), Esaie Santervil (Haiti), Santervil (Haiti), Gracieuse Volmar, Jessica Patel, Christabela Pierre, Junior S Pierre, Fedwich Jean, and Fedeline Jean (Haiti),; and her great-grandchildrens’, Widjlove Duny Loxident., Julissa Spely Mondestin, Zora Patel, Ayria H. Patel, Aiden Patel, Miracle H. Volmar, and Madison Pierre. Great Sons In Law: Reginald Volmar and Andy Patel. Notrelie, forever, her memory will be enjoyed and cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
