

89 years old, of West Palm Beach, FL, died Friday, April 1, 2016 after an extended illness. Born in Delray Beach, FL, Whitey was a lifelong resident of the Palm Beaches. He attended St. Ann School and was a member of the parish his entire life. He left school early to enter the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he served on the U.S.S. Boxer in the Pacific theater. After the war he returned to West Palm Beach where he joined the West Palm Beach Police Department and served until 1965. He went to work for Brinks Security after retiring from the Police Department and remained with the company until 1991. In his “retirement” years he worked in security at the Flagler Museum. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margie Mae Hardin; his son, Patrick Wayne Hardin (Anita); his three sisters, Ida Young, Hazel Doherty Burton (Jim), and Rosemary Townsend; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Olive Griffin, Elsie Griffin and Doris Brand. Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL , CREMATION & EVENT CENTER at HILLCREST, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at St. Ann Church, 310 N. Olive Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33401. Interment will take place at the S. Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Fl at 1:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to TrustBridge Hospice, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL, 33407 or to St. Ann Church, West Palm Beach.
