Reggie Asberry touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He peacefully stepped out of time and into history on July 14, 2023. Reggie was born on De- cember 10, 1955 to the late John Lloyd Asberry, Sr. and Betty Jean Brown of Riviera Beach, FL. He grew up to become an outstanding individual, epitomizing what it means to be a loving husband, caring father, proud papi, and a cherished friend. He was a true pillar of strength, a devoted partner, and a source of unwavering love for our family of 41 years.
From a young age, Reggie was passionate about music. During his time at North Shore High School, he played the tuba in the band and was nominated the “Most Talented” in his class. He graduated from high school in 1973 and matriculated to college. He attend- ed FAMU and Bethune Cookman College (BCC) where he received a full scholarship in Music. Reggie graduated from BCC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music.
Reggie was a gifted musician with the ability to sing anything from Bach to Gospel! He was the Music Teacher at Glades Central High School and Palmview Elementary School for numerous years. But, Reggie’s heart was in entertainment which he did effortlessly. For over 40 years, Reggie was a Master Entertainer for the Ocean Resort Industry; a Min- ister of Music for churches throughout the state of Florida; and a highly sought-after Mu- sician for private parties, weddings, receptions, and numerous social events nationwide. Some of the major highlights of Reggie’s career include performing at Governor Bob Graham’s Inauguration, competing on National Star Search in California, and opening for famous singers- Cab Calloway, Danny Kaye and Robert Goulet just to name a few. Reggie is the Co-founder of Essentials For Godly Living Women’s Ministry and the Founder of Anointed Praise & Worship Music Ministry. He has impacted many lives as a music teach- er, choir director, and entertainer around the globe.
Throughout their blessed journey together, Reggie shared a bond of unbreakable love with his wife, Hattie. Their love story was one that inspired all who heard it. Together, they faced life’s challenges hand in hand, supporting each other through thick and thin, and building a beautiful family. When God blessed them with their beautiful baby girl Jasmyne Dominique life took on a new meaning.
As a husband and a father, Reggie demonstrated an immense capacity for love, always putting his family’s needs before his own. His kindness and selflessness knew no bounds. Whether it was comforting a troubled soul, sharing the good news about Jesus or lending a helping hand, he had an extrodinary ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. Hattie often marveled at his unwavering commitment to their marriage. Through both joyful and challenging times, Reggie remained a constant source of reassurance, provid- ing his wife with a strong shoulder to lean on. His gentle presence lit up their home, making it a sanctuary of love, peace, laughter, and cherished memories. Not only was Reggie a devoted husband, but he was also a loving father to Jasmyne. He imparted his wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love to her as she grew into the remarkable young woman she is today. His legacy lives on through her successes, accomplishments, and the love she shares with her own family and our beautiful grands Janelle and Jordan Duval. They were the ultimate joy in his life!
Reggie had an unwavering faith and found solace in his belief in Christ. His devotion to his faith inspired others to seek a deeper connection in their personal walk with Christ. He would tell his family and friends to embrace the power of faith in their lives and know that God is always in control.
In his spare time, Reggie enjoyed reading with his wife, traveling with his family, and looking at Little House on the Prairie. The simplicities of life gave their household great joy. Whether it was pursuing his passions or simply spending quality time with loved ones, he radiated joy and contentment. His infectious laughter, practical jokes, and warm smile could light up any room, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
While we mourn his loss, we take solace in the memories we have shared with Reggie and the lessons we have learned from him. His legacy will forever remain etched in our hearts, serving as a constant reminder to cherish every moment and to love without hesitation.
Reggie is preceded in death by his parents: John Lloyd Asberry, Sr. and Betty Jean Brown: and his sister Carolyn Asberry Hagwood (Harry). Reginald leaves to cherish his memory: his wife- Hattie Rolle Asberry of 41 years, daughter- Jasmyne Asberry Duval (Charles Jr.), and grandchildren- Janelle and Jordan Duval. Also left to cherish his memory are his brother- John Lloyd Asberry, Jr. (Brenda); nieces- Carole Hagwood and Tamara Hagwood Battick (Gallon); nephew- Harry Hagwood, Jr. (Jenene); family in love Charles and Diane Duval; special friends- Phil & Edwina Mooney and Clifton & Vivian Montgomery; and a host of loving cousins, family, and friends.
Reggie cannot be replaced in our lives. He has left a permanent imprint on every heart he has touched. We will love him throughout eternity!
