Robbie was born in Enterprise, Alabama. She moved to Bartow, Florida as a small child, and most of her childhood memories were there. Growing up, she was the oldest of 11.
There were many struggles growing up during The Great Depression Era, but she was always happy and never thought of herself as being poor. She was taken out of school in the third grade to pick strawberries and cotton. She had her first job working in the Five and Dime at the age of 11. She loved to square dance, jitterbug, and play softball and basketball. She also spent a lot of time cooking with her adored Mama, and caring for her many siblings.
After graduating from high school she moved to Delray Beach, Fl and took a job at the A&P grocery store. It was there she met her future husband, Jimmy.
She worked as a cashier and clerk, and he worked in the meat department. It took a little persuasion for him to get a first date, but he finally won, and they were married soon after. They were married for 38 years, before his passing in 1992.
Robbie was employed at RCA, she was an Avon representative for over 20 years, and she retired as a clerk at the Palm Beach County Courthouse with 15 years of service.
After her retirement she worked part-time in the office of her beloved church, Belvedere Baptist, where she has been a member for more than 50 years.
Robbie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a great Southern cook and enjoyed collecting recipes and making her special dishes for holidays, birthdays and special events. No one who visited ever left her house without being fed first.
Robbie was a devoted grandmother and deeply cherished the time she spent with her family. She loved to talk about her grandchildren and how special each one was to her.
Some of her favorite memories were of her road trips with her church family, The Belvederes. They visited many destinations like Gatlinburg, St. Augustine, The Cove in North Carolina and The Whistle Stop Cafe in Juliette, Georgia. She cherished her church family and was deeply devoted to her faith.
Her last few years were difficult but she fought with strength and determination and always had a smile for everyone she met.
She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.
A funeral service for Robbie will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Belvedere Baptist Church, 301 Cherry Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33409, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
