Robert Gordon III, age 91, of Palm Beach, FL, Kitty Hawk, NC and Middletown, RI passed away in hospice with his family beside him on November 27, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, FL on January 27, 2024 at 11 am.
Bob was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Garden City, NY. He received a BA in economics from Amherst College. There, he met the love of his life, Eleanor Shockley, who was at Mount Holyoke College. They were married for sixty-eight years. Bob later received an MBA from New York University.
An Air Force ROTC scholar, Bob served as an officer in the United States Air Force in France before returning to New York. He spent most of his career with IBM, including time in New York, Florida, and Connecticut. A lifelong Episcopalian, he served the church in leadership positions wherever he lived. Bob engaged with and valued the people around him. Some of his favorite times were spent on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Eleanor, their children, Robert, William and Elizabeth, his brother, Bert, and his grandchildren, Alexa and Adam Gordon, and Spencer and Clara Dellenbaugh. He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew.
Memorials may be given to The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, Palm Beach, FL.
