Salvatore Guarnera passed away peacefully on November 1, 2019, at the age of 97, and was greeted at heaven’s gate by his wife, Sally, granddaughter, Jennifer, his parents, brothers and sisters, who were all waiting patiently for him to join them.

He was born in 1922 in East Boston, MA, to Carmelo and Catherine Guarnera, who immigrated to America from Italy, and was the youngest of 8 children. As a young man, he served in the US Army in World War II and loved to tell his many wonderful stories about his days in France and Germany securing our freedom. During the last few months of the War, he led a group of soldiers through an exposed route with enemy sniper attacks in Germany bringing vitally needed supplies to the units ahead, and was honored with a Bronze Star Medal in April 1945 for his heroic achievement.

He loved his Boston sports teams, especially baseball, and was an avid Red Sox fan, and even though he didn’t have any boys, he still coached and ran the East Boston little league, where he was very proud that he groomed future Red Sox players.

He married his lovely wife, Sally, in 1952, and they raised their two daughters in Melrose, MA, before retiring and moving to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1990, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. His family was always his priority and his unconditional love and support was endless. He had a heart of gold and was a shining example of what a good man and father should be. He loved playing cards (of which he played until he was 96) and always said that he didn’t think he would have lived as long if he had not moved to the warmth of Florida.

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his two daughters, Kathy Antonelli and Sallyann Mohler, his son-in-laws, Domenic Antonelli and Randy Mohler, his grandchildren, Dommy, Alexander, Jonathan and Sarah, and great-grandchildren, Destiny, Jenessa and Connor, as well as, his many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the last months of his life, his family was blessed to have had the opportunity to take care of him in his own home in West Palm Beach, FL, and give back to him the love that he gave them every day of their lives. He was a kind and sweet man who was loved and admired by everyone who was blessed by his presence, and he will be truly missed.

David and I would like to share our deepest sympathies with the family. My fondest memories are the holidays with Papa. I never had to twist his arm too hard to have a glass of Chianti with me at the dinner table:) He always had a warm smile and fun stories of the old times. His quiet, patriarchal presence will be missed. We love you papa.
