I met Sam through his brother Bill back in 1970.  We hit it off right away.  He was always so open and friendly towards me.  We shared a common love of music.  We remained friends throughout the years.  I always remember his dry witty clever humor.   The stars in the sky dimmed the day Sam passed.  I miss him every day.   Love you always.  You were more than friend you were a brother.

Sam and I somewhat grew up together but because I left W. Palm Beach, I lost touch with Sam, until I found him again around 2000. He was teaching at the armory with Frank Smith, another middle school friend and I talked to him there but never got to see him.

Sam and I were in our own band, Just Plain Heavy. We played in my living room and Sam, with his mustang and fender arrangement, Ramie, with his bass, Matt on vocals and me on my drums, made a big noise and entertained ourselves for hours.

I'm going to quote an old song here, Life By The Drop by Stevie Ray Vaughn, in remembrance of Sam (whom I knew but whom many others didn't know that I knew):

Sam.. Miss u so much.  U taught me how to not only and listen and learn... but patience and how to think thru the creative process. U were very  generous w your knowledge and time.. and btw u even put some strokes on an occasional painting of mine.. I loved that

Coming late to this...I saw that Sam had passed in my copy of a recent Ringling Magazine. I knew Sam during our Jr. High days. We conspired to form a band, "Just Plain Heavy," with Sam on his Fender Mustang, me on drums, Matt Langston singing and a guy Sam brought, Ramey, on bass, and had two practice sessions, that was all. Later, I saw Sam working his attendant job and he asked me about my Ringling experience, later attending the school himself. Sam, I'm glad to see all of your success and I'm sorry we never connected after I talked by phone to you and Frank Smith at the Armory School.

Sam was my drawing teacher at Armory Art center.   He was a kind person and a great teacher.  I knew him for years after that, often running into him on the street.   I enjoyed his work very much and bought a small painting from him that sits on my desk where I work.   I love that little painting.  What I admired about Sam was that he was always searching in his artistic expression.   His paintings were a journey of his creativity and brilliance.   I will miss him.   Rest In Peace,  Sam.

Carol our hearts are with. It's was so wonderful when you and Sam , Terry, John came for a supply club. And soo many kits.  It was more exciting when you came in and said....Were married.!
I am beyond blessed to have known Sam.  He's now painting us rainbows .

Sam was a free spirit, kind and generous soul, amazing artist, gifted musician, talented teacher, and loyal friend. He gave his all to creativity and his family. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Sam’s smiling face greeting everyone as they opened the door to the class he taught at the Armory is something that will be very missed. 
He was upbeat, happy and created a mood that let each student feel that they were  welcomed into that class room. 
He took time to get to know everyone and remembered something about them when he spoke to them the following week. 
He cared about people and their feelings. 
I was always amazed at his kindness and encouragement. He would find something nice to say about each student’s work. No matter how wonderful or horrible their paintings were he praised, kindly suggested changes and encouraged. 
He was a very kind person. He will be missed. 

Sam was an excellent  Professor and was very generous and giving of his time in order to help me improve as an amateur artist. He was also a person with very original ideas, effervescent, charming, and never boring. I was very sad to learn of his passing, I liked him a lot.

I met Sam in 1970 through his brother Bill.  Sam Perry has one of the kindest souls I ever knew.  So many memories driving to Tampa to see Led Zeppelin.   Sam always  had that way of making me laugh  out  of the blue.  He had such modesty.  I will tell him about the musical influence on me he would respond well actually Don you had more of an influence on me.  That was Sam plain and simple.  Sam always reminded me of Iggy Pop, I could see Sam every time I saw Iggys picture. We always laughed about that.  Sam was left handed like myself.  He taught to play Sunshine Of Your Love on bass.  Such a gifted guitarist and artist.  Sam would of been successful at whatever he chose.  In closing Sam  you impacted my life.  I will never forget you  are more than a friend you are family.  

So very sad to lose such a dear man and wonderful artist who gave much joy to everyone as a friend, colleague, teacher, mentor and beloved to many. May his memory be a blessing. Sam Perry has touched many souls and will be remembered with deep affection.🙏

Sam's passing is just devastating. We have been close friends since the mid 80s when we met at Joy Moss Gallery. Sam and I had a show together with Joy and over the years, we grew as artists and as  brothers. He was  extraordinarily generous in his friendship. We were both looking forward to having  another show together in the near future.  I loved him dearly and Lourdes and I were so looking forward to meeting Carole and  the four of us spending time together. Eternal rest grant to him O Lord, and may His perpetual light shine upon him.

Sam truely lived his life to its fullest through simple pleasures. He had the uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.  The passion that he had for painting and the love of teaching gave him a great purpose in his life. What he left behind is a legacy that will always be remembered as a legend beyond boundaries. Sam was an extraordinary men. I loved him with all my heart and he will be missed every day for the rest of my life. What we had was something  most people are looking for and few ever find. The connection was and still is beyond this world. I am very fortunate to have find him twice. He left so soon. I was looking for many more years with him. Sadly and unexpectedly turned out differently. I love you my love. Rest In Peace. We will be together again.

Sam was a very special person in my life. He was my art teacher, my art mentor and dear friend for over 20 years. He was the kindest, most compassionate and loving friend. He was the best most encouraging teacher. He was an incredible artist and colorist with the most creative mind. Chuck and I will miss him always but are thankful to be able to be with him through the many works we have purchased from him. May his memory be a blessing. ❤️

Sam was a great artist, a good teacher and a good friend.
