Thomas Ray Murray

MURRAY, Thomas R., 82, of Lake Worth, passed away March 30, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Cleveland, TN, Tom resided in WPB since 1939. He attended local schools and also attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. Tom served in the US Navy in San Diego and on the USS Hollister and USS Nereus. He later served with the US Coast Guard Active Reserve. After Honorable Discharge from the military, Tom joined the PBSO. While with the PBSO he served with the Dive Team and was a Detective Sgt. in the Juvenile Division. Tom retired as a Lt. from the PBSO in 1988 and then became an Investigator with the PBC State Attorney’s Office. Over the years Tom also worked security at the Palm Beach Kennel Club in WPB. Tom enjoyed spending time with his wife Betty and their pug at their log cabin in NC. Although he had a green thumb, and kept the best looking yard around, his true love was in cars. Over the years, Tom owned countless vehicles; each one nicer than the last. His final ride of choice was his Dodge Challenger Hellcat. He loved driving around in that power machine, always keeping it in pristine condition.

Tom is predeceased by his wife, Betty (Byrd); son, Terry, and Mother, Ella Manley. He is survived by grandchildren, Erin, Cara, Shannon and Thomas J. Murray; sister in law, Jacqueline Byrd McCants; nephew Thomas J. (Patricia) McCants and niece Janie McCants; dear friend Rita (Tom) O’Malley and Goddaughter Erin O’Malley and Godson Patrick (Amanda) and Ben O’Malley.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL, CREMATION & EVENT CENTER, 6411 Parker Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33405. Friends and family are invited to gather at 10:00 AM to celebrate Tom’s life with the Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 AM and Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park, immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice
