Virginia was born in 1926 in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky to parents Roscoe T. Milligan, Sr. and Lena Wells Milligan. She was the oldest of 4 children and grew up on her family’s farm in Kentucky. She grew up during the depression and helped with many tasks on the family farm including: vegetable gardening, carrying water from the spring, cooking on a wood stove, and much more. Throughout her life, Virginia had a love for learning. When she was in 8th grade, she won the Bullitt County Spelling Bee. She was unable to complete high school due to the high cost of books, but she did not let that hold her back as she completed her high school program through a pre-online correspondence course when she was 60 years old. Throughout her life, she was a strong proponent of education for women during a time when many people believed that the only roles for women were secretary or homemaker and she instilled in her daughter the value of education and her daughter went on to become a first-generation college graduate.
Virginia met and married William H. Strange Sr. in 1945 and they moved to Florida in 1959 when her husband took employment with the space program at Cape Kennedy. Virginia met and married John Pent Sr. in 1980 and they lived in various beautiful cities in South Florida. She moved to Plano, Texas in 2017.
Virginia had a deep faith and love for God and most recently was a member of the Hypoluxo Baptist Church in West Palm Beach and her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23. Throughout her entire life, she was a hard worker, a generous and kindhearted giver to all, an intelligent woman, and a lover of life. She enjoyed listening to music, singing, dancing, gardening, sewing, baking, solving crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite television programs including: Wheel of Fortune, basketball, and football.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband John Pent Sr. and brother Roscoe T. Milligan Jr. She is survived by and will be missed deeply by her daughter Janet (Morris) Herzberg of Atlanta, Georgia, son William (Stella) Strange Jr. of Plano, Texas, stepdaughter Sue Price of Tucson, Arizona, stepson John (Denise) Pent, Jr. of Naples, Florida, granddaughter Catherine (Matthew) Daley of Gainesville, Florida, step-grandchildren Tyler (Amanda) Price and Wyatt Price of North Carolina, great grandchildren Naomi and Colin Daley of Gainesville, Florida, step-great grandchild Levitt Price of North Carolina, sister Lois (James) Stark of Lebanon Junction, Kentucky, brother Shirley (Gigi) Milligan of Lebanon Junction, Kentucky and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
