

Betty Jo was born on March 26, 1934 in West Salem, IL to Girdna (Gillard) and Phillip Mewes. She graduated and was valedictorian at Cisne High School in 1952. She later worked at Pure Oil Company in Olney as a secretary and also at WVLN radio station, and it was in Olney that she first met Arthur Pool, at a square dance. They were married on September 3, 1955 in West Salem. Together they owned and operated Pool Dairy Farms for many years. Betty Jo was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook who loved to teach others to cook; her specialties being pies and bread. She was a faithful member of the Berryville Christian Church where she was a member of the Willing Worker’s, headed the Berryville Ladies Auxiliary, and was the Key Lady for the Carmi Christian Retirement Home projects. She thoroughly enjoyed helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Gail Hadley.
She is survived by one daughter; Cheryl (Tim) Braddock and two sons; Bruce Pool and Brad (Jane) Pool all of Berryville, IL. She is also survived by one brother; Ronald (Linda) Mewes of Lancaster, IL, nine grandchildren; Brett (Machelle) Pool, Mandy (Jeremiah) Brown, Chelsea (Greg) Volk, Mackenzie Pool, Brittiany (Andrew) Pool, Ben Pool, Braden Pool, Mitch Braddock and Logan Braddock. Also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren; Dakota, Keegan, Dawson, Sidney, Marlee, Gabrial, Evalynn and Abrahm.
Visitation for Betty Jo Pool will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem, IL. Funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Berryville Christian Church, Berryville, IL. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, located north of Berryville.
Memorials may be made to the Berryville Community Center.
