Richard E. McDowell

Dick was born May 18, 1927 in West Salem to Clifton and Emily (Robinson) McDowell. He married Jeanette Miller on December 26, 1951 in West Salem, and she preceded him in death on January 20, 2015.

He worked for the railroad, and later owned and operated McDowell’s Grocery Store in West Salem. He was a member of the West Salem Masonic Lodge.

Dick is survived by two sons: Terry and wife Geralyn McDowell of Sugar Grove, Illinois and Steve McDowell of West Salem; one sister, Ruth Ann Parker of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; four grandchildren: Elizabeth, John Allen, Rachel, and Rebecca; and four great-grandchildren: Aiden, Gavin, Olivia, and Connor. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers: Clayton and James; sister Patsy Kitchene, and grandson James Andrew.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 25 at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery, near Samsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Southeastern IL. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
