

She was born December 27, 1943 in Jasper County, Illinois to Carl James and Iona (Yoder) James. She married Gary Worthey on April 9, 1993 in Newton, Illinois, and he survives. Scharlene was a homemaker and a caregiver. She had a deep love for Jesus, and loved her church and family. She enjoyed arts and crafts, decorating, teaching children, and cooking and eating.
Scharlene is survived by her husband, Gary, of West Salem; two daughters: Melissa (Roger) Hall of Mt. Carmel, Illinois and Shawna (Edmund) O’Brien of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons: Cord (Carmen) Bear of Ormond Beach, Florida and Dallas (Lori) Bear of Effingham, Illinois; two step-children: Andrew Worthey and Jennifer Huggins; two sisters: Diana James of Newton and Mona Chapman of Rose Hill; one brother, Calvin James of Lexington Park, Maryland; fourteen grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Rebecca James, Carletta French, and Terry Hunsaker; and her first husband, William Bear.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 26, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Christian Church in West Salem. The funeral will be Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church. Burial will follow at Kerns Chapel Cemetery in northern Jasper County.
