Jan 22, 1925 – Apr 24, 2023
On April 24, Catherine McKay, at home and in the company of her loving daughters and family friend, Tracy, passed away, aged 98.
Born in Elfros, Saskatchewan, Catherine took nursing in Saskatoon. She met her future husband (a Notre Dame Hound) and later famed restaurateur, Angus “Mac” McKay, and moved to Canada’s west coast, but always maintained a loving connection to
cherished prairie memories. Their three children grew up in North Vancouver, heavily involved in sports including skiing and aquatics. Their home was frequently the central point for clan gatherings of family and friends. Generous in many ways and ever the gracious hostess, Catherine enjoyed cooking, crosswords, cards and reading, before macular degeneration claimed her vision; however, Catherine continued to follow ice sports by sound and music continued to be a source of comfort and entertainment. Catherine always enjoyed a good laugh. Most of all, she was a modest, loving, genuine presence to all friends and family showing interest in their pursuits and having a special connection with her ever-expanding family including great-grandchildren.
Catherine maintained a valued lifelong friendship with her best friend, Agnes, both living deep into their nineties. The last of her generation of Muirs and McKays, her loving disposition will be carried in the hearts of her many survivors. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Angus Alexander (Mac), and son, Bill, whose wife, Paige, remained a big part of her life to the end. Her daughters, Meg and Sandie showed their devotion in their caring attention in her final year, allowing Catherine to maintain her dignity and independence in her own home. Catherine is also survived by many beloved grandchildren and friends at the culmination of a life well-lived.
Interment at Capilano View cemetery.
