Dolly Cartwright passed away peacefully at Lions
Gate Hospital on her 90th birthday, surrounded by
her loving family. She is survived by her sisters,
Ruth Fisher, Bea Snelgrove and Nora Haaland; her
sons, Barry Cartwright and Mark Cartwright; her
daughters-in-law, Lynn, Rosa, and Linda; her
grandchildren, Nina, Gary, Lisa, Stacey, Cameron,
Lynnsey, Ana Paula and Angelina; her greatgrandchildren,
Casey, Jadon, Rylee, Noah, Lillian,
Caiden, Aleah, Gabriel, Nicholas and Zachary; and
nieces and nephews, John, Tom, Arlene, Christina,
and Rick. Dolly is predeceased by her husband,
Douglas Cartwright in 1996, and by her sons,
Michael Cartwright in 2010, and Paul Cartwright in
2015.
Dolly was born on the North Shore, and lived in
West Vancouver almost all of her life. She was
active in the Royal Canadian Legion, serving two
terms as President of the Women’s Auxiliary BCYukon
Command, and 10 years as the President of
the Women’s Auxiliary for the West Vancouver
Branch of the Legion. She was keenly interested in
seniors’ housing, seniors’ health, and veterans’
affairs. She sat on the Board of Directors of North
Shore Health, Cedarview Lodge, North Shore
Volunteers for Seniors, and Lionsview Seniors
Planning Society, and was Co-Chair for the North
Shore Adults at Risk Support Network. Her
dedication to volunteer work and to the community
were recognized through many awards and
distinctions, including two Queen’s Jubilee Medals,
two Brock House Society Senior Awards, the Royal
Canadian Legion’s Meritorious Service Award and
Lifetime Members’ Award, the Commemorative
Medal for Canada’s 125th Anniversary, a BC
Community Achievement Award, and in 2005, the
West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen
of the Year Award. Dolly lived life large, loved her
family above all else, and will be sorely missed by
family, friends, neighbours, fellow volunteers and
Legion members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on
Monday, July 3rd, 2017, at St. Christopher’s
Anglican Church, 1068 Inglewood Avenue, West
Vancouver, BC. A reception will follow in the Parish
Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
St. Christopher’s Anglican Church or Lions Gate
Hospital.
