4, 2016 after an incredibly full life. He leaves
to mourn many friends and relatives
including sons George (Evelina), Ron
(Barbara), John (Wendy), and Ted (Lora)
with grandchildren Graham, Ellen, Alexander,
Griffin, and Janna. Predeceased by wife Mary.
Born in Fort William, Ontario, he moved to the
Greater Vancouver area at age 21 and soon
found his way into the insurance business. He
met the love of his life, Mary, while skating at
the Vancouver Forum. Their courtship lasted
over 7 years before they married, punctuated
by WWII, when George served in the air force,
chiefly as a navigator. George and Mary
settled in West Vancouver in 1945, where
they had and raised four boys. George
participated in many community activities,
especially involving sports. His love for his
family, including five grandchildren, was
boundless and his friends and neighbours
were also a very cherished part of his life. He
remained active well into his 90s. His one-
hundredth birthday party was a real joy for
all. With his recent dwindling health, he was
still remarkably positive and thankful for all
that he had. George’s intelligence and
resilience were astounding, his knowledge
was encyclopedic, and his curiosity never left
him. He loved people and gatherings. We are
very grateful for the excellent care he
received at home, courtesy of VCH
Community Home Care staff and also
privately, as well as most recently in Lions
Gate Hospital. Memorial Service will be
held at West Vancouver United Church,
2062 Esquimalt, at 3 p.m. on Friday,
February 12, 2016. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
Lions Gate Hospital Foundation (https:/
