August 3, 1928 - August 13, 2018
Gunther Munzel passed away peacefully in North
Vancouver, BC, after a full life. He is survived by his
loving wife, Peggy, of 54 years; by his daughter
Julie, son Mark and their families; and by friends
and relatives across Canada and spread over the
globe. After emigrating from Germany in 1953,
Gunther began a 40-year career with the Bank of
Montreal, where he found satisfaction in helping
both his coworkers and his clients. He dominated
the handball court at the YMCA during his lunch
hours. Consulting, traveling with Mom, dancing,
baking, and tending his roses and geraniums kept
him busy throughout his “retirement.” He was
proud but unassuming, and until his last few days
he was unstoppable: always pushing himself,
always thinking, and always doing what he believed
was right. Having seen hardship in his youth, he
was driven to make sure his family was always cared
for - especially Mom. We will strive to follow Dad’s
example, and we continue to love him as deeply as
he loved us. We miss him terribly, but we are relieved
that he is no longer suffering. There will be no service
by request. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the
charity or community organization of your choice.
