OBITUARY

Mr. Harold Wilhelm Westerlund

December 18, 1924February 7, 2013

WESTERLUND, Harold Passed away quietly on February 7, 2013 at the age of 88 after fighting cancer, off and on, for several years. Harold was born of Norwegian and Swedish stock in Starbuck, Manitoba where he grew up on the family farm along with his six brothers and sisters. As an adult he continued to work on the farm, but in 1965, at age 40, he moved with his wife and three children to British Columbia in order to offer greater opportunities to his family. He settled in Burnaby where he trained and worked as a real estate agent, then as a builder, and ultimately found his niche as a developer, mainly of commercial properties. He remained active in business, and in his church, until the time of his death. He was predeceased by his son Ronald/Nathan and is survived by his daughters Sheila (Robert) and Linda (Peter), and will be missed by his many friends. “Miss me a little, but not too long. And not with head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared, miss me, but let me go.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the BC Cancer Agency. Harold Westerlund
In Memoriam

Harold always had a warm smile and a cheery hello as he strolled the halls of Avalon Gardens.

Sometimes we would sit together on a quiet Sunday and he would tell me stories of his youth and how he ended up living in the residence he was instrumental in developing.

I will personally remember the day of our grand opening at Avalon in March 2010. The day was sunny and warm, and amidst the gathering crowd of local well-wishers, Harold arrived looking very handsome in a soft grey/blue suit with a Nero jacket. The color matched his eyes perfectly and he was smiling from ear to ear as he escorted his two beautiful daughters, Sheila and Linda, into the residence. I can distinctly remember saying to Harold that he had gorgeous daughters, to which he smiled even more broadly and said 'yes I do'!

Once when one of the Avalon staff was struggling to bring her family to Canada after a very lengthy waiting period, Harold actually had me type a letter to the Minister of Emigration for Canada requesting that they expedite the paperwork so she could bring her family home. At the heart of who Harold was, was a very caring heart indeed!

Your presence will be missed dear Harold, but you will always reside in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.

I am so thankful to have met Harold at Avalon and then at SouthRidge. He was such a dependable guy and was willing to help others in any way he could. He had a deep abiding faith in God and to me shone the love of Christ in his life. I send condolences to the family but know that he today is with God.
