Dear Couz Herbert, 
Thank you for loving my mum, your youngest Aunty Dorin Geraldine Ong! I hold on to one memory at your late papa Jin Teck’s wake that being the only time I met and saw you once in Singapore and realised  you are so close to my mom whom you grew up together in Katong! 
My only other memorial encounter was when your sister Dorothy & Albert became my God Parents at my confirmation.
These two memories aside, ours is a deeply dysfunctional family steep in distrust and epitome of the proverbial saying, ‘Money is the root of all evil!’ 
To me as the only historian in the family, I have realised the tragic failure of our grandpa Ong Bok Yew in failing to make proviso for his three wives & offsprings yet it’s the same with my dad’s side too! Strange as it may sound to your twin offsprings I never have anything more than love for my family as heaven gave to me. Instead I chose to dwell on the beauty of God’s infinite Love and how seemingly bad fruit can also bear good fruits with His Mercy. 
We will meet one day in Heaven though you will meet your fave Aunty first as she is in the twilight of her life. I know you are one of the few Ong Couzs I choose to remember for I saw the genuine love you had for my mom. I missed Dorothy too. Will keep you in my prayers in remembrance as I continue my pilgrimage on earth. 
Rest well Couz Herbert in Peace and pray for this side of a disarrayed family! Only remnants are in touch and bad vibes abound! We leave them into Jesus’ infinite Mercy! 
Guess I will never know my twin Canadian nieces but I will keep them and your wife in my prayers.

Dear Late Cousin Herbert, I found you in death ironically when I couldn’t connect with you again in this life! I have a memory of you only when we met at late Uncle Jun Teck’s wake. Our side of the family is so complicated yet I know you are a good man who took good care of your family and always remember my mom, Dorin Geraldine Ong with whom you grew up with in this huge family with Grandpa Ong having married 3 wives! Well for your twin kiddos gals and descendants who would like to know how even a Katong Opera Estate fruit could bear so many good fruits, I have a family tree which needs more inputs if there’s one historian like me amongst us. All are estranged but my mom is still alive in a St Andrew’s Nursing Home. Myself in a Chinatown Care Home. Uncle Vince a real flesh & blood kin says hello to my nieces and their offsprings! I’ll pray for daddy and all! God Bless! Uncle Vince, Singapore
