January 31, 1935 - March 2, 2021
Steve passed away peacefully at West Vancouver
Care Centre after spending h i s l a s t days
surrounded by his 3 children and re-living some of
the good old times. Even in his final days, Dad
never complained. Whenever he had a cup of tea
in hand and someone around to talk to, his sense
of humour and genuine wide smile remained intact.
Steve was born and raised in England, where he
met and married Barbara Meakin in 1957. The
newlyweds travelled to Canada to begin their new
life and settled in West Vancouver where they enjoyed
many years in the beautiful West Coast setting. Steve
is survived by his 3 children: Mark (Pascale), Andrew
(Rose), and Maura, as well as 5 grandchildren.
In his early twenties, Dad earned his accounting
degree which enabled him to start a career in the
shipping industry. It was here that he really thrived,
eventually rising to a senior executive level and
enjoying the excitement of living in Montreal,
Seattle, and New York. He loved his work and this
led him on to great adventures and trips to all
corners of the world. As well, it meant an everexpanding
group of colleagues that became his
good friends and often visited the family home to
enjoy legendary pool parties.
In his youth, Dad loved his motorcycles, cricket,
and especially tennis - which he played with his
kids at every opportunity until he wore his shoulder
out! Steve spent most of his retirement years
enjoying the sun and the ocean in San Jose after
driving down the Baja to San Jose every year. He
loved a fine meal with good company, sailing,
diving in tropical waters, jazz…and would often get
up in the wee hours so he could catch the Formula
1 races “live” from wherever in the world they were
taking place.
Dad will be remembered for his gentle spirit and his
contagious smile will be missed by all who knew
him. “Treasured in our hearts you’ll stay, until we
meet again someday”.
The family would like to extend a special thank you
to the wonderful nurses and staff at the West
Vancouver Care Centre. There will be no service
by request.
