Jack (John) Rutledge — April 11, 1926 - May 15, 2017. Jack passed away peacefully on May 15, 2017 at the age of 91. Predeceased by his wife Nini, he is survived by his four children: Lisa (Bruce), Jeff (Sally), Mark (Tanis), and Alison (Scott); his ten grandchildren: Jesse, Tim, Suzanne, Sam, Adam, Emma, Conner, Carly, Jack and Isabel; and his two great-grandchildren, Kalia and Harlow.
Jack grew up in Vancouver and attended John Oliver Secondary where he met a lifelong group of friends, many of whom would gather for annual retreats they called “Washplug” on Bowen Island. Later, he attended UBC, then, after meeting Nini, moved to West Vancouver where he lived for more than 60 years, raising his family.
After a long tenure at the Royal Trust Company, and later at Montreal Trust, Jack spent his retirement as a keen member of the Squamish Valley Golf Club and many winters enjoying the Palm Springs sunshine. He also took great joy in the plays, musicals, dance recitals, rock concerts, and soccer, baseball, basketball, field hockey, and hockey games, of his grandchildren, at which he was a regular attendee.
A fair golfer, decent tennis player, avid reader, excellent dancer, world class whistler, lover of Big Bands, Benny Goodman, Ella, and Duke, Jack lived his life independently and on his own terms. He will be missed by family and friends alike.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lilia DelMonte, one of Jack’s caregivers in the last year of his life, for her patience and kindness.
A private celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date.
