Josie is predeceased by her parents Peter and Helen Mamczasz and her husband of 50 years, Byron Briton, survived by her brother Casimier Mamczasz (Audrey), children Judy Briton, Barney Britton (April), Lisa Briton Hodges (Steve), and grandchildren Carmen Lazenby, Nadine Britton, Shiloh and Shelby Hodges, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Josie was born on the family farm in Red Deer Hill, Saskatchewan, on July 21, 1938. Being raised by two hard working immigrant parents, she learned English at school and taught her parents. She eventually moved to Vancouver, started a family, and successfully owned/operated North Shore Driving School for 55 years alongside her husband Byron. She remained an active member of various associations and held titles of President of the Vinettes of VCCC, President of the North Vancouver Youth Band, Western Canadian Vice-President of the DSAA, Secretary of the BCDSA, among others over the years. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, traveling, antique and vintage cars, growing vegetables in her extensive garden, going for walks at Ambleside and remained very active throughout her life.
Josie passed away peacefully, leaving behind cherished memories with her family and friends. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend who is lovingly remembered for her vibrant outgoing personality, boundless energy and big bright smile. She was a strong, hard working woman, who rarely, if ever, took a break. North Shore Driving School became an institution in British Columbia, she worked well into her 80’s. Josie was always available to answer the phone when you called and was always there to lend a helping hand. Her kind heart and giving nature made a lasting impression on anybody she met. She will be missed.
