Josephine (Ena) Brown, age 82 passed away
peacefully at her Amica West Vancouver home on
April 23, 2021. Ena is survived by her three
daughters who will miss her dearly: Sharon (Les)
Reeves of Kaysville, Utah; Lisa (Tim) McCoy of
Blind Bay, BC, and Sandy (Kerry Malish) Fawsitt of
North Vancouver, BC. She also has five loving
grandchildren: Heather (Morgan Brown) and
Jordan Allen, Jenny, John, and Emma Reeves and
two great grandchildren Harlan and Mason Brown.
Mom was predeceased by her son, Ted and sister,
Moira. Mom who was born in Greenock, Scotland,
bravely made her way to Canada with her younger
sister at the age of 12. She married Thomas
Fawsitt, settled in West Vancouver, and had four
children. Early memories of Mom include lots of
dancing in the living room, hikes throughout the
lower mainland and summers at Crescent Beach.
After the passing of her son, Mom turned to
volunteering for women’s shelters, oversaw the
women’s prison library and had an opportunity to
follow her passion for the environment by visiting
the Galapagos Islands. Mom married Michael
Brown in the early 1980s. One of her fondest
memories during her travels was the time she
came face to snout with an Arctic Wolf, they both
stared at each other neither wanting to budge. The
wolf left first, and it is said Mom would still be there
had it not. It was not many years later mom found
her love of golf. Joining the Squamish Ladies
League was a defining moment in her life where
she made even more lifelong friends. Her golfing
escapades took her all over the world and she
proudly brought home trophies for 3 holes-in-one!
Mom was a fabulous cook, a passionate dog lover,
an avid reader and lover of all things nature.
Three years ago, Mom moved to Amica West
Vancouver, where she felt so incredibly lucky to be
overlooking a beautiful wild landscape which
invited many birds and other critters. Mom was
surrounded by her family (and thanks to
technology others not able to be there, due to
Covid restrictions, were able to say goodbye)
when she passed. Finally, our family wants to thank
the amazing Amica team. The attention, time and
care they gave Mom, made her last years truly
happy and carefree. We can never thank you all
enough. As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no
celebration of life. When her entire family can be
reunited again there will be a beautiful send off to
an amazing Mom, Granny and Great Granny. In lieu
of flowers, please donate to the SPCA or your
favourite charity.
