It is with great sadness that the family of Maureen Patricia Drobot (nee Wishart) announce her passing on April 29, 2021. She left this world peacefully surrounded by love, at her daughter’s home, after a long battle with cancer.
Maureen was born and raised in Vancouver and went to Gladstone Secondary School. She married Dennis Drobot at 19 years old and they went on to have 3 children. Maureen worked for an insurance company for 25 years. Later in life she was better known as “Momo” as this is what her grandchildren named her.
Maureen was a fabulous cook who enjoyed entertaining and bringing family and friends together.
She always loved music and dancing. Her favourite bands were CCR, Dr. Hook and Elvis. The last concert she went to was at Deer Lake Park where she was up dancing to Nathaniel Radcliff’s “Son of a Bitch!”
She also loved being by the ocean, reading, doing crosswords and watching her favourite cooking tv shows.
Maureen was a Canucks super fan who petitioned to bring the NHL to Vancouver in 1970. During game nights, her screams could be heard throughout the house and neighbourhood when her beloved team missed a goal or scored.
She had many life-long friends including Judy. They were friends since they were 2 years old and when together were always the life of the party.
Most of all Maureen cherished her family. She was always there for every sporting event and Christmas concert, even when she was sick. She was a fighter and never wanted to miss out on anything.
She has left everyone with a lasting imprint of being the most gracious, warm and loving person. She welcomed anyone in and made them feel heard and seen.
Maureen has now lovingly packed her memories and the love for those who have gone before and those that remain, securely in her heart. She will be greatly missed!
Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Margaret Wishart, and brother Kerry Michael. She is survived by her children Michael (Yumi) grandchildren Ray & Saho in Japan, William (Barry) in Victoria, Tonya (Russell) grandchildren Keegan, Skyler & Garrett in Vancouver, and siblings Colleen (Chuck) and Steve (Jackie), and numerous other family members and friends.
Thank you to the palliative care team in North Vancouver, especially Cathy, Kate and Jennifer who came to the house every week for over a year during the pandemic. We all appreciate the support…
One day soon, the family will have a celebration of life and dance all night & drink margaritas and lots of Maureen’s favourite white wine called Screw it!!
