Maureen died peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital September 7th.
She is survived by her husband Edward Cooke of West Vancouver, her sister Donna Lee Dorosh, and Jenifer Fogg, her sister in law Maureen is predeceased by her parents Fred and Arduth Dorosh of Edmonton Alberta.
Maureen earned a BA at U of A and her MSW at UBC. She chose a challenging early career path in corrections and penitentiary services and the Provincial and National Parole Boards. Later, she turned to education and was president of Burnaby College with it’s native Indian diploma programs, President of Asia Pacific International University of Macau and President of The Dubrulle Culinary Institute. Nominated several times as Woman of Distinction and Entrepreneur of the Year, Maureen took pride and pleasure in seeing young people succeed.
Her love of music was fulfilled with her early piano accomplishments and later her membership in the North Vancouver Burstin with Broadway choir. Although diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2005 Maureen maintained an active life with her garden, her pets, entertaining her friends and her singing. She will be sadly missed by her husband Edward, her sister, sister-in-law, and her friends. Although she loved flowers, a small donation to Alzheimer’s research would be preferred.
