Mrs. Nancy Giles Kent

February 4, 1919January 25, 2013

Nancy Kent passed away at the age of 94, on Friday, January 25th, 2013, with her children at her side; Terry Kent ( Marilyn), Lesley McLeod ( Jim) and Lauren Dowad. She will be sadly missed by her grandsons, Jeff, Trevor and Jordan; plus the Matheson Family of Winnipeg, sister Peggy, nephews Jim & John and niece Marnie. Nancy arrived in Canada from Scotland, as a wee babe in arms and the family settled in Winnipeg. While attending Daniel McIntyre high school, she met the love of her life, Bill Kent and they were married in 1942. Nancy went to work for the Eaton's Department Store and because she was an accomplished seamstress, she was promoted to the Department Head of Notions, a position she held for many years. In 1964, the Kent Family, moved from Silver Heights, Winnipeg to West Vancouver, where Nancy resided until her passing. While in both Winnipeg and West Van. she was a very active member of the United Church. Services will be held at West Van United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Ave. at 2:00 pm February 4th, 2013. In lieu flowers, a donation to the CNIB for Macular Degeneration, would be gratefully appreciated.

Nancy was my aunt and my memory of her will always be one of kindness and consideration. I remember, with a smile, when I visited her at Hollyburn House. I was concerned about her as we chatted and then walked down the hall to the dining room for a cup of tea. But she would have none of my concern. She was 'perfectly fine' and she was far more concerned about me. Was my chair comfortable enough? Was my tea strong enough? Did I need another biscuit?

She was a loving and selfless aunt, and I will miss her. Sincerest condolences to Terry, Lesley and Lauren.

Lauren, I was so sad to read about your mom's passing. She was such a lovely woman, and I always looked forward to her visits with us. Please give my condolences to the rest of your family.

My mother, June Hall, always considered your mom HER best friend. After mom's passing in 2007 I wondered if I would ever know how your mom was and if she was still as fiercely independent as I remember mom saying. How wonderful you had her for so many years. I hope all the many happy memories you have of your mom will help you at this sad time. Sincerely, Judy Hall
