December 20, 1922 – April 8, 2012
Passed away peacefully at his home in West Vancouver, Easter Sunday, April 8th, 2012 in his 90th year. Predeceased by his wife, Bettie in May 2004, his brother, Maurice and his two sisters, Florence and Henriette. Survived by his two children, Leslie MacLean and Greg (Shawna) Bedard, five grandsons, Scott, Ryan and Trevor MacLean and Braden and Mitchell Bedard. Bob’s heritage was French Canadian and he was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. During the Depression he took an evening job as a delivery boy for a local pharmacy. He was 13 years old. After high school he joined the Air Force. It was during wartime in 1942 that he was stationed in Kitsilano. He always hoped to return to Vancouver. When the war ended, Bob took Pharmacy at the University of Winnipeg. He graduated in 1948. He then moved to Calgary as a pharmaceutical sales rep for the Company, Merck. It was at this time that he fell in love and married his beautiful wife, Bettie. Soon after, Bob was transferred and the two moved to Toronto. This was where Leslie was born. Bob and his family were then transferred to Lachine, Quebec where Greg was born. They lived in Lachine for 5 years, when they were eventually transferred to Vancouver in 1960. Bob decided to pursue his pharmaceutical skills when he opened up his first drugstore in a medical building in New Westminster (1966). This store became one of seven stores, all called Regency Prescriptions. He loved working for himself and proved to be quite an astute businessman. He expanded his business to include a wholesale drug business and then finally focusing on only medical supplies. He bought an acre of land at Willingdon and Canada Way in 1983 and has operated a successful medical supply company called Regency Medical Supplies. His son, Greg is now running the family business. Bob’s greatest passions were his family, his work and his garden. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Leizel of 2 ½ years and Greatchin of 1 year. Leizel worked tirelessly during the last months of his life. Grateful thanks also to his longtime family doctor and friend, George Chalmers and his palliative doctor, Dr. Paul Sugar and the nurses and care aides who also were so good to him. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, B.C. on Saturday April 21st, 2012 at 11:00am. Interment will take place on Monday April 23rd, 2012 at 11:00am. For those wishing to share a memory of Bob, please go to www.hollyburnfunerals.com
