1936 – 2026
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Robert Dan Pearmain of West Vancouver on February 10, 2026. He is survived by his devoted wife, Pat, and their three children: Susan Elizabeth (Rick Ketler), Geoffrey Robert (Stacey Alexander), and Mark William (Debbie Pearmain). Bob also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Trevor (Emma), Ryan (Pik), Jordan (John), Mackenzie (Lisa), Hope (Bridger), and Noah.
Bob, the only child of Daniel and Maudie Pearmain, grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, attended Vic College before heading to UBC to complete his degrees. He shared a close bond with his cousins, Trudie (Al) Wilkinson and Gordon (Jean) Pearmain, who were like siblings to him.
Bob and his wife Pat were partners for life – raising their family together in West Vancouver, skiing at the family cabin in Whistler, summers spent in the Okanagan and camping on the Oregon Coast, travelling the world, and sharing adventures for over 63 years. Bob was immensely proud of his family – it was his greatest accomplishment and the source of immense pride. He is most proud of his 6 grandchildren and the amazing young adults they have grown to be.
Bob lived a life of joy and service to others. He served 35 years in the Vancouver School Board serving as Principal at University Hill, Magee, and Churchill Secondary school(s) before retiring as an Associate Superintendent in 1994. He was active in global education serving as Secretary for the International Baccalaureate Executive committee organization, President of IBNA (International Baccalaureate North America) and President of the International Heads of Schools (1989-1992).
The family would like to express their profound appreciation to the staff at Sunrise Senior Living (Lonsdale) for the love, care and attention they gave Bob for the past 15 months.
In their earlier days, Bob and Pat were long time members of First Baptist Church in Vancouver. They now have a strong community at West Vancouver United Church where a Celebration of Life will be held on April 12 at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you reflect on a positive memory of Bob. Should you wish to donate – please choose a worthy cause, that is important to you, in Bob’s name.
