ROMAIN was born on October the 28th, 1933 in west Flanders, Belgium. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather who retired in 2001 after a forty year career as a chemical engineer. His career began in Africa but would take him to Ireland, and the United States before the final twenty years in Canada.
After graduating from the University of Gent he married Magdalena Julia Heysse on February the 28th, 1959, and the newlyweds immigrated to the Belgian Congo to begin their lifetime of adventure.
Aside from his professional work, Romain had a real passion for gardening, especially his beloved rhododendrons. He also loved animals, maintaining an aviary in both Africa and Canada and caring for many dogs and cats over the years. His main indoor hobbies were cooking, brewing, enjoying opera and following sporting events such as the many tennis championships, the Tour de France, World Cup and the annual World Series.
Romain is survived by his wife, Magdalena, two children, Nicole and Edward, and two grandchildren, Natalie and Brendan. He passed away June the 16th, 2022, after a brief illness. The family wishes to thank Lions Gate Hospital and the emergency department for the excellent care he received there.
