It is with profound heartache and sadness that we say good-bye to our beloved Scott Mathew Mitges who passed away suddenly in West Vancouver on January 15th, at the age of 33. He will be deeply missed by his partner Courtney Parsons (and their beloved little dog Wookie), mother Pat, father Loreigh, brother Justin (Corrine), niece Arya, family, plentiful friends, and co-workers.
Scott was born in Hamilton, Ontario on May 8th, 1987. After spending the majority of his life there and developing an immense network of friends, Scott pursued his wanderlust and travelled throughout Europe, returned home to further his education and life experience, and then made a permanent move to British Columbia.
Scott began working for Carbon Engineering as a technician in 2017 and was the first dedicated Plant Operator. He was instrumental in the plant operations and created many friendships during his time there. As a leader, he set an example with his kindness and dedication to those who worked for him. His wealth of knowledge, humour (including numerous jokes about his sweater collection), and friendship will be greatly missed by many.
Scott enriched the lives of many through his love of music. Whether he was playing guitar to his little dog, writing songs with friends, or dancing with Courtney in their living room while listening to his favourite records, he was his happiest when engulfed in all things music. If he wasn’t connecting with his friends and family through music, it was through his love of cooking. He cherished cooking for friends, trying new foods, and teaching others how to cook his favourite recipes. He also enjoyed walking with Wookie through Ambleside, camping in the Pacific Northwest wilderness, skateboarding, spending time with his father who recently moved to West Vancouver, and continuously learning and developing in all aspects of life. He loved and cherished his family and friends in both British Columbia and Ontario and looked forward to the day when he could travel back to Hamilton to visit his niece.
He was a loving, patient, generous, free-spirited soul who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A service will be held when COVID19 restrictions are lifted. Contributions in Scott's name can be made to the SPCA or the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC.
