

passed away peacefully at her home in West
Vancouver, British Columbia on May 12, 2021.
Twyla was predeceased by her loving husband,
Mark (Maurits) Mees on February 26, 2021.
Twyla is survived by her loving children, Mark Mees
(Scot Matheson), Marla Ritchie and Carel Mees
(Denise Zunker) and granddaughter, Katie Ritchie
(Shawn Hallgren), as well as first cousins, Cheryl
Froud ( I a n MacLean), Donna Paul S t r e i t ,
Gwendolyn Paul Jamieson, Audrey Froud Wilson,
Margaret Froud (Bob Arnold), John Froud (Pat),
Jeffrey Froud (Pat), Mark Brooks (Gayle), Mary
Lynn Brooks, Sherry Brooks Ostrander (Tom), and
Lisa Brooks Mandel (Danny) and, her nieces
Cynthia Froud-Cook (Bob Cook) and Janet Froud
(Dan Christensen), and many other nieces,
nephews and friends.
Twyla was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 6,
1936 to her parents, Reginald Samuel Froud and
Hazel Kathleen Froud and grew up with her older
brother Larry Gordon Froud in the Riverdale
neighbourhood in East Toronto. Twyla and Larry
would often spend their summers with their many
cousins and friends living in and around the small
town of Springfield in southwestern Ontario.
Among the notable life-long friends were Bob Plato
and Joyce Nesbitt.
Twyla met her husband Mark in Toronto, and they
married on March 2, 1957. The couple lived on
Kingston Road, and later in Thorncliffe Park, finally
purchasing their first home in Willowdale in 1964.
The couple had their first son, Mark, in June 1959,
who was followed by h i s sister, Marla, i n
September 1962 and finally by their second son,
Carel, in January 1964.
The family moved to North Vancouver, BC in
January 1968 as husband Mark pursued a career
opportunity with United Dominions. These career
opportunities later took the family to Beaconsfield,
QC in December 1973 and then back to West
Vancouver, BC in June 1976, where Twyla and
Mark remained in their family home until both their
passing this year.
Twyla was also predeceased by her father
Reginald in 1962, her mother Kathleen in 2003, her
brother Larry in 2013 and his wife Helen Naumoff
Froud in 2012.
After 64 years of marriage, Twyla and Mark will be
interred together when safe to bring family and
friends together, at the Springfield (ON) cemetery
to be followed by a Celebration of both their Lives.
If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Canada.
