Knowing that today is Benny's funeral, I woke up early to sit and remember the times we had. We shared apartments or houses in New Jersey, Hawaii and I stayed with his family for several months in California before I moved my family there. We worked side by side and commuted during those months and had more laughs and serious talks than I can count. He loved the song " I am a man of constant sorrow" from the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou". He sang it so many times on our drive to work that I started singing the backup vocals to his lead. We laughed every time it ended. What a great memory. A group of us all learned how to windsurf together in Hawaii when we lived together there. We worked together in CA during the world changing attack on 9/11. Lots of meaningful talks there. Benny was a genuine, good man that loved his family and friends. He was very smart, very good at his job and cared about doing things right. I'm grateful to have spent so much time with him. RIP my old friend. We love you and will miss your great soul and sense of humor. My deepest condolences to Julie and all of Benny's family and friends.

To Benny’s family and friends,
I met Ben on a train from New York in 1985.  He asked me if I knew a good place to live in New Jersey.  I was annoyed at first but he was a charmer.  I ended up driving him and his friend Brian to an apartment complex.  They wanted to pay cash for a deposit on an apartment.  They only took in state checks.  I wrote a check for them and they gave me cash.  I brought them to my parents house for dinner.  My Italian father said why are you picking up strays?  I said they needed help.  He said okay come on in.  Welcome to New Jersey.  How can we help you?   Ben became one of my best friends for the next 5 years.  We lost touch in the 90’s but he sought us out after 9/11 making sure we were safe.  He sent me pictures of his family and a letter saying he never writes letters so I should keep it as a souvenir!   Love your coonass!  May your family feel peace and love.  You were truly one of a kind Benny.  Rest In Peace my sweet friend.  Julie, stay strong girl. Benny was one of my favorite students when he was at Kinder High. He was always such a sweet person to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family. May you remember all of the special times that you spent together as a loving family.

He is preceded in death by his parents andbrother-in-law, Max Caldarera.
