Burl Thomas "Tom" Hooper, 87, went to be with the Lord on February 24th, 2021. He was born to Lottie Perkins Hooper and James Sherman Hooper on September 9th, 1933. He was a long time resident of Westlake, Louisiana.

He spent his final days at home, surrounded by his loving family. To know him, was to love him. He was a devoted husband to his beautiful wife of 67 years, a dedicated father of 5, and sweet pawpaw to 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army, including a tour in Okinawa. He retired from Sasol after 27 years of service as a maintenance supervisor. He was a good, hard working man, and the patriarch of his family.

His family meant everything to him, and came second only to his love for the Lord. He was an active member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Westlake, Louisiana.

He loved to work in his shop, visit with friends and family, scope out good garage sale finds, and drink coffee in his rocking chair on the back porch. He enjoyed the slow life of retirement very much.

Tom is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Hooper; Parents, James and Lottie Hooper; Sister, Margaret Smith; Brother, James Hooper; Brother, JL Hooper; Sister, Wilma Frank; Brother, Frank Hooper; Sister, Betty Ruth Hooper.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Alice Hooper, Son, Timothy (Cathy) Hooper; Son, Sherman (Mary Ann) Hooper; Daughter, Lisa Fontenot; Daughter Lori (Lonnie) Benoit. Grandchildren, Danielle Duplichan, Kortney Hooper, Beth Corbello, Morgen Reppond, Taylor LeBlanc, Thomas Brown, Lacy Brown, Sean Brown, Rustin Benoit, Cristal Benoit, Christopher Benoit, and Kaleb Benoit. Along with 18 great grandchildren

Visitation will be held at Hixon's Funeral Home in Westlake on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary to be held at 6:00 pm. Visitation will resume at 8:00 am on Saturday, February 27, 2021 until 10:45 am when the procession will leave for the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at St. John Bosco Catholic Church. Interment will be immediately following at Westlake Memorial Cemetery.

My sweet pawpaw! I already miss you so much! I will forever cherish all the times you sang “In the pines, in the pines, where the sun never shines and the cold when blows, I know!” to wake us up! You sure knew how to get us up and out of bed in the mornings for church ❤️ I love you Pawpaw!

Uncle Tom gave me my first car when i was a teenager. The car was nothing to brag about but I thought it was unbelievable. It was something that most people never heard of. The car was a black Simca with a 5 speed shift on the column. It used more water than gas cause I think there was a leak going on somewhere. But it got me to my fishing hole and back home. If that was not enough he gave me another car later on which was a 1964 Plymouth Barracuda and that car was just incredible. What kind of Uncle does this kind of stuff? One with a heart of gold and i will never forget his big ole Hooper Heart. RIP Uncle Tom.
