David Mitchell Fontenot

David Mitchell Fontenot (77) passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A proud Army Vietnam Veteran and skilled carpenter, David was known for his kind heart, steady hands, and deep devotion to those he loved. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors, but his greatest joy was simply being with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nellius and Planey Joe Fontenot, Sr.; his brothers, Planey Joe Fontenot Jr., Wilber Fontenot, and Wilson Fontenot; sisters, Anna May Pettit, Katie May Richard, Rose Marie Rogers, and Juanita LaFlame; and granddaughter, Lakean Cryer Vincent.

David leaves behind his children, Shelly Tunks (husband, Ricky), Stephen Fontenot (girlfriend, Jenna Vasseur), and Jamie Fontenot (wife, Rene); sister, Brenda Sue Spearn; grandchildren, Garrett Tunks, Kaitlyn Eason, Kennedy Fontenot, Brennan Fontenot, Caiden Fontenot, and Ansley Fontenot; along with 10 great grandchildren who carry forward his legacy.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Tracey Myrick for her loving and compassionate care during David’s final days.

The family requests visiting hours be observed at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral home will reopen on Monday, August 17, 2026 from 8:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
