

Donnie was a native of Westlake, where he graduated from Westlake High School and later attended McNeese State University under an athletic scholarship in Track and Field. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, after discharging from the Army he joined the National Guard for six years. Donnie joined an elite group of men and women when he became a member of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department for 28 years, for ten years he was a chief investigator for violent crimes. He enjoyed the outdoors, was a talented artist and carpenter, entrepreneur, and an excellent marksman. One of the ways he was affectionately thought of was his “Wyatt Earp” personality. Donnie adored his grandchildren and liked to spoil them rotten.
Those left to cherish his wonderful memory are his wife of 33 years, Deborah Taylor Fittz; his mother, Charlsie Fittz; son, Brandon Fittz and fianceé, Casie Doucet of Lake Charles; daughter, Courtney Fittz Flowers and husband, Pete of Westlake; brother, Stan Fittz and wife, Rhonda of Westlake; sister, Karen Chalmers and husband, Forrest of Bastrop, TX; sister-in-law, Sherry Manning of Orange, TX; two grandchildren, Peyton Lantz and Jackson Flowers. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Fittz and a brother, Ronnie Fittz.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake on Saturday, December 26, 2015 from 5pm to 7pm and will resume Sunday at the 1pm at First Baptist Church of Westlake. Services will begin at 2pm on December 27, 2015 at the church. Interment will follow at Westlake Memorial Cemetery. Words of comfort may be expressed to the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
