She was born in Luis Moya, Zacatecas, Mexico on December 1, 1935 to parents Frederico and Maria Josefina Ruiz.
Elvia was a native of Mexico and a life-long resident of Westlake, LA. She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and a member of the Latin Mass Association. She was formerly a fry cook at Casa Manana for over 18 years. Her grandchildren and family were her passion. She enjoyed travelling, cooking, and was a dedicated angler.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons Dennis Garcia and wife Tana of Lake Arthur, LA and Gerald Garcia and wife Tara of Pinebluff, AR; her two daughters Marcela Walker of Houston, TX and Bernice Garcia of Westlake, LA; her two brothers Frederico Ruiz Martinez and Octavio Ruiz Martinez; her five sisters Martha Ruiz Martinez, Norma Ruiz, Lecticia Ruiz, Rosa Ruiz, and Alma Ruiz; her ten grandchildren Bryan Wold and wife Codie, Santana Clement and husband Cade, Tiffani Donewar and husband Mickey, Jonathan Walker, Blake Garcia, Kendale Garcia, Zane Garcia, Kayla Hunter, Bryan Says and wife Carrie, and Austin Walker; and twenty great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Donato Garcia; her parents Frederico and Maria Ruiz; her sister Flavia Ruiz Martinez; and her two brothers Armando Ruiz and Elizar Ruiz.
A visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Westlake on Sunday January 2, 2022 from 4 pm until 8 pm with a Rosary at 6 pm. Visitation will resume Monday January 3, 2022 at 8 am until the time to proceed to the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church at 10 am on Monday January 3, 2022 at 10 am led by Fr. Jenesh Joseph. Burial will immediately follow at Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery.
