James was born to Leo and Mary Lou Hogan on January 28, 1952 in Larned, Kansas. The family moved to Westlake, Louisiana when he was young. He graduated from Westlake High School in 1970, enlisted in the Navy, and served two tours in Vietnam. After returning home, James worked in the construction industry where co-workers labeled him one of the "best heliarc welders" in our area.
During James' working life he traveled to many job sites in various states. Later in James' career, he became a welding inspector and took his work very seriously. For fun, James enjoyed hunting, camping, boating/fishing, and playing with his grandchildren. He was very creative and used his welding expertise to make one-of-a-kind creations.
James married Debra Ann Broussard on April 29, 1972 and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past year. They have resided in Moss Bluff for over 40 years and have many relatives and friends.
Those left behind to celebrate James' life are his wife, Debra Ann Hogan; children Shonda Hogan Dardeau (Clay); Seth Leo Hogan (Courtney); and grandchildren Julianna Dardeau, Carsen Dardeau, Lillian Hogan, and Elizabeth Hogan; and his sister Mary Hogan Miller (Michael).
James is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings John Leo Hogan and Ann Marie Matthews Fast.
The family will receive friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake for visitation on Sunday, March 12, 2023, from 5:00pm - 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Monday, March 13, 2023, from 9:00 - 10:40 am.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023 with Father Guilbeau presiding and Frank Martarona assisting.
Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery of Westlake.
The family would like to thank the following: Tiki and Hadley with Home Instead, Cornerstone, and High Hope Care Center for their amazing service and love while caring for James during his illness.
