John N. "BB" Fontenot

WESTLAKE - John N. "BB" Fontenot, 75, died at 5:23 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010, in a Shreveport hospital.

He was a native of Gueydan, LA. He retired from IBEW Local 861 as a 50 year member. He was a member of the LA National Guard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. He enjoyed spending time at home with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed cooking for his family and spending time in his garden. He had a witty sense of humor and was very wise.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clark and Eve Fontenot, his brother Lawerence Fontenot, and his nephew Leroy Fontenot. Survivors include his wife of 50 years Mary Vassilissa Deville Fontenot of Westlake; daughter, Dorothy Ann Odum of Moss Bluff; son, James Richard Deshotel and his wife Elizabeth Ann of Mamou; sister, Ethel Stozle of Natchitoches; two brothers, Leroy Fontenot of Gueydan; and Chester Fontenot of Westlake; four grandchildren, Jessica Ann Locke of Mamou; Joshua Richard Deshotel of Mamou; Robin Beth Godeaux of Mamou; and Rebecca Ann Odum of Moss Bluff; six great grandchildren, Lauren Deshotel of Mamou; Tyler Devillier of Moss Bluff; Andrew Godeaux of Mamou; Parker Menier of Mamou; Cade Godeaux of Mamou; and Gracie Godeaux of Mamou.

His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 17, in St. John Bosco Catholic Church of Westlake. Burial will be in Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery in Westlake, La., under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. Visitation is Saturday from 3pm - 9pm with a rosary prayed at 7pm, at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. Visitation will continue Sunday 8am until service.
