Mabel was born in Iota, and lived in Westlake for the majority of her adult life. She was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served as a medical technician working with wounded soldiers.
Mabel loved her family, and lived her life for all of them. Anyone lucky enough to have been welcomed at Mabel’s house for a meal was treated to the best cooking anywhere in the world. Once you were introduced at “Granny’s” (as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren called her), you were considered family from that point forward, no questions asked.
She is survived by: Brothers Allen Doucet (wife Helen) of Fort Worth Texas, Herman Doucet (wife Linda) of Iota, and sister Isabelle Roller (husband Byron) of Crowley. Children Sadie Smith (husband James) of Westlake, Andrea Atchison (husband Jeff) of Moss Bluff, and Bill Brewer (wife Kimberly) of Moss Bluff. Grandchildren Dr. Chet Smith (wife Jackie) of Covington, Cindy Rose (husband David) of Elk Grove California, Chuck Smith (Kristi Long) of Ragley, Larisa Pearce of Lake Charles, Tracy Gaspard of Lake Charles, Erin Cobb (husband Jared) of Lake Charles, Erica Gibbs (husband Matt) of Westlake, Brittney Beale (husband Aaron) of Sulphur, and Kayla Brewer of Moss Bluff. Great-Grandchildren Joel Smith, Sara Smith, Sadie Rose, Madison Hartley, Mason Pearce, Morgan Gaspard, Tyler Cobb, Wyatt Cobb, Brandt Cobb, Jaydon Gibbs, Grayson Gibbs, and Olivia Gibbs. Great-Great-Grandchildren Kaison Simon and Kinsley Hartley. Special niece Elaine Smith and special nephews Blaine Doucet and James Doucet.
Mabel was preceded in death by: her husband, William C. (Bill) Brewer, father, Horace Doucet Sr., mother, Clemence Lacombe Doucet, brothers Wilfred Doucet, Horace Doucet Jr. and JD Doucet. Sisters Lilly Alvin and Helen Stewart.

Her funeral will be at 12 PM Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. A private burial ceremony will be held at a later date. Visitation is from 4 PM – 9 PM Monday and from 9 AM until the service on Tuesday. Reverend Steve Bennett will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or other charity.
