Richard LeRoy Hardesty, age 73, of Westlake, Louisiana passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, August 5, 2022. Richard was born November 20, 1948 to parents Quentin Hardesty and Mary Avey Hardesty in Ponca City, OK. Richard and his family moved to the Westlake Area when he was three years old and he stayed a long term resident. He is a graduate of Westlake High School and attended McNeese University in Lake Charles for a short time before enlisting in the Navy in April of 1969. He traveled with the Navy Elite Volleyball team which took him throughout the United States and to other far nations. He worked for Olin/Lyondell Chemical in Westlake for 17 years.
He loved to do mechanic work with his best friend, Bob. He liked to take the boat out to fish, and even fished in a few tournaments. He worked for his son Damon at Sun LLC. as a superintendent and had to make sure all of his work was perfect. Richard had a strong work ethic and was up at 5:30am every day to get his day started. He was known to be a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He will be welcomed into heaven by : his parents and nephew; Quentin Hardesty.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years; Gloria Hardesty, sons; Damon Hardesty and wife Mandi of Westlake,LA and Richard Cody Hardesty of Westlake, LA. step-son; Jason Counts and wife Sarah of IL, brothers; Keith Hardesty and wife Sheila of Westlake, LA and Dale Hardesty and wife Cindy of TX, sister; Elaine Dennis and husband Allan of Ragley, LA , grandchildren; Jackson and Hadley Hardesty, Morgan, Mylo and Vera Counts. There are also a host of nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
Visitation for Richard will be at Hixson Westlake Chapel on Thursday, August 11 at 5:00 pm until 8:00pm.
Visitation will resume at Hixson Westlake Chapel on Friday, August 12 at 9am with services following at 10:00 am with Reverend Randall Topping to officiate.
Burial will follow services at Westlake Memorial with graveside service led by Reverend Randall Topping.
