She was born in Toro, LA and lived in Westlake most of her life. She was the 8th of 13 children. She was a member of Gateway Church of God. She retired as a school bus driver for Calcasieu Parish. She was an accomplished quilter, having made and given quilts to many friends and family. She was an active worker in her church. GeeGee was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
GeeGee is survived by her daughters, Shirley D. Martin of Tulsa, OK, Mary Book and husband, Barney of Westlake; sons, Charles R. Bowman of Westlake; sisters, Armedia Taylor, Eulah Marie Chaney, Isabelle Eaves, Velma Ceilestia Terrell, Carolann Bowman and Alma Erwin; brother, Alvin Marze; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Bowman; parents, James D. and Odessa Marze; sisters, Verler Mae, Josie and Roxie and brothers, Archie and Everett.
Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Gateway Church of God in Moss Bluff. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and will resume at the church on Thursday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westlake Church of God for Operation Christmas Child or Gateway Church of God in Moss Bluff for the development of the Youth Building.
